Many Greetings, Dear Ones!
We wanted to check in and see how you are doing. It is a difficult thing, more difficult than many realize, to be inside the second year of a worldwide pandemic. Humans are calibrated, much of the time, to the arbitrary but well-used chunks of time that most people agree on – days, weeks, months – and there is a synchronization in the body for such periods. Many things are celebrated at the yearly marking of the original event, and so it is not unusual that people would have expected the anniversary of the onset (as they experienced it) of the Covid-19 pandemic to produce a sense of completion.
When an occasion is marked, it is common to expect a meaningful experience. In the case of the pandemic there has been, in some areas, a moment of uplift as more people are receiving vaccines. Many articles and opinions have been written about what and when “getting back to normal” would be. As the pandemic marches – and in some cases rages – on, you may notice a new level of fatigue overtaking you. You may feel more restless and tired, have trouble concentrating on tasks, feel grumpy and lonely and crowded and generally experience malaise. You have realized, in your body if not your mind, that This is Not Over.
What does it mean that there is no return to normal? Some of you did not even know you were holding your breath. Too many things, if you’re lucky, have shifted and changed, inside and outside of each person. There is no return to the before times; those times are in the past. There is an unknowable quality to the future now. It has always been uncertain, but the veil or illusion of certainty was usually strong. Now that veil has been torn to shreds. Now it is acknowledged, internally if not elsewhere, that the future cannot be known and the past cannot be recreated. All you really have is now. Present moment reality. Life. This breath. This is where your power and your opportunity lie.
We want you to understand that you build your future in present moments. That you grieve your past in the here and now. That the love you feel for anything is happening inside and around you, always, but not at some other time. What you want your life to be, it is now and will become based on choices made today. What you regret, that is past, there is no recourse but to organize yourself to err as little as possible in the practices that brought you to pain.
The process of life is imperfect, and to attempt to perfect it is really a waste of time. But what you have in the here and now is all the possibility of love, of sorrow, of narrow vision and also the potential for opening up. You can be as much of yourself in this moment as you can, and that’s about it. Some moments are more satisfying than others, some moments are hard to live through. The moments keep coming and shifting, approaching, retreating, and fading. The moments of life will shine on after your body is gone, in the present, here and now, of those you have left behind.
Spend life well. Not perfectly, but well. Just hang out. Be alive. Do what matters and what serves, each moment, each day, or whenever you get around to it. IT IS GOOD ENOUGH. We promise. How you live your life is utterly sufficient. If you feel a lack it is probably only that you are forgetting to notice the present moment. Here. And Now.
Much Love and Many Blessings,
