Getting Things Done

Many Greetings, Dear Ones,

We realize that lots of you are fretting about Getting Things Done these days. We understand, and we would like to offer some perspective.

The Things aspect relates to big things like social justice and climate change as well as smaller things like managing to brush your teeth and get dressed most days. Then there are all the Things in between, like managing work and relationships and the many jobs of parenting or caring for clients or taking care of one’s home and belongings. Here’s the thing about all these Things: They are all the same Thing.

The Oneness of All Things is undeniable. Nothing on your Earth is entire unto itself; everything exists in relation to everything else. You, your laundry, your political systems, your masks. Every growing living thing, and everything you may not consider living or growing – like rocks or trash – still exist within the context of the third dimensional life on planet Earth. And so, while this may seem overwhelming, it is actually very good news.

Since every Thing is interconnected, every Thing you do is going to affect every other Thing. That means working for justice will help you brush your teeth, and brushing your teeth will help your relationships, and your relationships will bolster justice, which may reduce vandalism and trash. The main concerns we would remind you of are not “am I doing enough” “how can I sleep” “what about all the suffering in the world” “am I being selfish” etc etc etc but more along the lines of, “What is the quality of energy, thought and feeling that I am bringing into this moment, and what am I contributing to the world as it ripples out?”

As you may have heard, how you do anything is how you do everything, and that goes for, well, everything. So if you brush your teeth while telling yourself you should be flossing, too, or you should have already brushed that day, or better, or more often, may we gently encourage you to rethink this strategy. Perhaps you could approach yourself more lovingly and with greater appreciation for the difficulties you are experiencing.

You could say, “Wow, how wonderful you are, brushing your teeth at all!” You could say, “Wow, you are so tired and things are so difficult but look at you go with the good old solid self-care!” You might even mention that, while flossing is available, it is not a requirement in this exact moment, and you trust that you will get around to it at some point in the future. In other words, rather than piling on the criticism and overwhelm, you could show yourself you care.

And this goes for all the other Things. Sometimes you get a lot of Things done, sometimes no Things at all (well, there’s breathing, that is a major accomplishment in some circles these days). It is not helpful, at any level of life-living, to be rude or mean to yourself (or another) in trying to Get Your Things Done. Put the energy and the vibration and the conversational tone of Love and Kindness into what you do and how you do it and you will develop that quality in the world around you, and it will continue to resonate like the ringing of a gong, long after you have gone to bed for the night.

PS We do not mean you have to be soft and quiet. We support you being fierce, when it is called for, when it is useful, when it is clean. We do recommend knowing the difference between being fierce and being mean, whether to yourself – “Get in there and brush your teeth!” – or to a politician or coworker or person in riot gear at the demonstration – “This has got to change!” If you practice saying those things, first fiercely and then meanly, you will recognize the difference. One is inhabiting your power and strength and one is pushing it outwards in a fairly useless manner. Try it and see which one you feel is which.

We love you all very much, many blessings,

from BlueStar & Counsel of Light
